What is an experience leader?

T rainer, Facilitator, Instructor, Speaker, no matter what you may be called to me, you are an experience leader! There is an evolution of what we do today, it is no longer sitting in front of a classroom and writing on the chalkboard, or flipping through an endless amount of PowerPoint slides, for me, it’s about leading the experience.

Webster or Google would define an experience as an event, and for your learners that is exactly what you are doing when you are teaching a class. You are creating a complete environment to learn, grow, and thrive. Whether it is a simple onboarding class you have given 1,000 times or a leadership class you are giving to executives once a year, you make each one a special experience and you become an experience leader. Put yourselves in the shoes of your learners or think back to the learning experience you have had. All of these experiences take time out of the learner’s day/week/career, they all have an impact on the learner, and they are all an event during this persons learning journey. You owe it to each one of these learners to make it an experience, one that they will be engaged, involved and retain the information you teach them.

My challenge to all of you, can you live up to being an experience leader, or is it just another class?

Three Ripples to Take Away

1. Are you engaging & involving your learners?
2. Is it an experience, or just a training?
3. Are you giving it your all, or just going through the motions?
